The Best Hardware Kit for Battened Sliding Gates

The Best Hardware Kit for Battened Sliding Gates

If you’re installing a battened sliding gate, the kind where the battens are welded directly to the face of the frame, your hardware choice matters. Not every sliding gate hardware kit will work with this style, and picking the wrong one means problems on site.

The right kit for a battened gate is the sliding block hardware kit. Here’s why.

What is a battened sliding gate?

A battened sliding gate has individual battens, usually flat aluminium sections, welded to the front face of the gate frame rather than sitting within it. The frame provides the structure, and the battens are attached to the face of the frame, giving the gate its finished look.

It’s a popular style because it creates a clean, modern appearance that works well with both residential and commercial fencing.

However - anything projecting off the face of the gate affects how the guiding hardware needs to be set up. This means you need to make sure you’ve locked in the right hardware for your battened sliding gate.

Why the sliding block kit is the right choice

The alternative to a sliding block hardware kit is the guide rollers hardware kit. Guide rollers run along the top of the gate on either side. This works fine on a framed gate with a flat side profile. With a battened gate it simply doesn’t work because the face-mounted battens project out from the frame and obstruct the rollers. The sliding motion of the gate is blocked.

The sliding block system solves this by guiding the gate from the guide channel which is welded to the back of the top rail. The sliding block connects to that channel as the gate moves. Because the face of the gate is untouched, the battens aren’t a problem.

What’s included in the sliding block hardware kit

The Top Screens sliding block hardware kit includes everything you need to get your gate running:

  • Wheels
  • Aluminium track
  • Stopper
  • 50mm F-Catcher
  • Sliding block
  • 300mm C-channel

In addition to the above, you will need either an overhead bracket or guide post to attach the C-channel to.
