How Does a Sliding Block Hardware Kit Work?
Share
Sliding block hardware kits are best for gates on slopes, uneven ground, or where overhead protrusions (like vertical cladding or spears) are present however can work for standard gates too.
How it works..
Sliding Block Hardware Kits allow the gate to maintain its position by guiding its movement along a track and allowing it to adjust to uneven ground. As the gate slides, the sliding block (guide block) moves up and down within the C-Channel, compensating for any unevenness or slope in the ground. This prevents the gate from getting stuck or bouncing while sliding.
Our Sliding Block Hardware Kit includes:
- Sliding Block (Guide Block)
- 300mm C-Channel
- Catcher (50mm F-Catcher)
- Aluminium Track
- Wheels
1. Sliding Block (Guide Block):
This is typically made of nylon or PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) for smooth, low-friction movement. It's designed to slide within the C-Channel and the Rear Guide Channel on the back of the gate, allowing the gate to move up and down as it slides.
2. Channel:
This is a U-shaped or C-shaped structure (made of aluminum or steel) that provides a track for the guide block. It's usually mounted to a support post or bracket which an optional add-on to our hardware kit as some people already have a post pre-installed.
3. Catcher:
The "F" shape allows the gate to slide past the post and be securely locked in place, providing a flexible solution for different gate configurations.
4. Aluminium Track:
The aluminium track is affixed to the ground for the wheels to glide along.
5. Wheels:
The wheels are provided to be attached to the underneath of the gate.
6. Optional Support Post/Bracket:
This component provides stability and may be attached to the fence or wall, ensuring the channel remains in place as the gate moves.
Are there any other Hardware Kits available?
Some prefer to use a Guide Rollers Hardware Kit which is only suitable only for framed gates on level grounds as it doesn't require an additional supporting post or overhead bracket which is required for the C-channel for the Sliding Block Hardware Kit option.
